X48: Will Intel overlock the X38? Posted on 14/09/2007 at 21:56 by Nicolas
In addition to its X38 chipset, which up until now has been presented as its flagship model with two real PCI-E 2.0 16x ports, Intel is currently planning to release the X48 in the beginning of 2008. This will be a more developed version of the X38 with official support of a 1600 MHz FSB and DDR3-1600. Of course, these will still fit on the same motherboard. The source of this information, our colleagues at Digitimes, specify that this will only be definitive after the launch of the X38 in order that Intel can determine the market’s reaction to its new release.
You may recall that at the Computex some motherboard manufacturers already emphasized official DDR3-1600 support with the X38. Let’s just hope that the potential X48 will not just be an overclocked X38 via higher voltage, for example.
