Affordable Sempron 2100+, TDP of 9W Posted on 31/05/2007 at 23:30 by Nicolas
AMD has added another reference to the line of embedded K8 processors with the Sempron 2100+. This CPU, clocked at 1 GHz, has a TDP of 9 Watts only and can be integrated to fanless platforms. It is compatible with the Socket S1 (638 pin or PGA), supports AMD64 and DDR2-400 and has 128KB of L1 cache and 256KB of L2 cache.
If this processor is indeed interesting, we noted though that it isn't revolutionary. Intel also sells processors providing similar level of performances like the Celeron M 443 at 5.5w and 1.2 GHz, and for an equivalent TDP, a Core Duo U2500 similarly clocked but with two cores. Even if the Sempron 2100+ price isn't yet known, AMD will certainly play on the price level to stand out as Intel's products are quite expensive: $161 for the Celeron M and $289 for the Core Duo.
