Samsung 226BW: the story goes on

It is getting a bit ridiculous. The article published on the different version of the 226BW is a problem for Samsung. Even if the manufacturer hasn't promised the implementation of "S" type panels in the monitor, there are some unhappy clients who wants to return their "A" series. To be more accurate those who have seen in the hidden menu that the panel is manufactured by AU Optronics and not Samsung wants to return their monitor. The reason for this (and it is justified), is that the current "A" series displays less accurate colors than the "S" series.

Samsung has published a sort of official press release that confirmed the difference in color rendering and indicates that the manufacturer is working on a solution.

Today, however, news got the conversation moving again:

  • this week-end (May 13, 2007), two readers send us the pictures of their 226BW that do not feature an "S" or "A" panel but a "C". Here is the photo of the hidden menu:

"C series means CMO! We thought that they were only restricted to the US, Asia and Australia. Now they are released in France too. What kind of image do they display? We don't know. The readers have reported two different and opposite versions. The good news is, however, that none of them wants to return their monitor. This is probably a good sign.

  • Nevertheless, Samsung apparently wants to respond to this panel polemic. They told us that they would and a first (non official) measurement seems to confirm this commitment…but not like we wish they would have to. Some clients complain about the unexpected identity in the hidden menu? Well, this won't be a problem anymore. The identification line has been simply removed!
