Brian Wickman, manager of Seagate China, declared that the company would start the volume production of hybrids 2"1/2 hard drives from March 2007. These hard drives feature a buffer of 256MB of cache memory additionally to 8MB of cache and were the subject of a news published in the beginning of June (10 months between the product announcement and the real availability).
Including flash memory bring two advantages: higher speeds and lower power consumption (this is probably the reason why the first drives will be produced for laptops). Wickman also indicated that hard drives with buffers of 512MB and 1GB would be introduced during the second semester 2007.
