     AMD releases the Athlon 64 X2 5200+

    AMD has modified its processor price list to include a new Athlon 64 X2: the 5200+. Only compatible with socket AM2 platforms like the 5000+, this processor has two cores clocked at 2.6 GHz each featuring 1 MB of cache L2. To cut a long story short, these are more or less the same specifications as the Athlon 64 FX-60 except for the much lower price: $403. This is $102 more than the 5000+ and this is a little bit expensive for a cache two times bigger.

    In practice, performances are the same as the FX-60 with DDR2 memory as reported in our Core 2 Duo processors test. Results are close to the Core 2 Duo E6400 which official price is $224…
