A new 36 GB Raptor Posted on 29/05/2006 at 13:49 by Marc
After the Raptor 74 GB, it is the turn to the 36 GB version to benefit from several improvements initially integrated by Western Digital to the 150 GB version. Here are the WD360ADFD characteristics compared to the WD360GD:
- ATA+TCQ with ATA to SATA bridge controller replaced by S-ATA+NCQ controller - Increase from 8 to 16 MB of cache - 4.5 ms average reading access time (-0.1 ms) - 5.2 ms average access time writing (-0.7 ms) - 0.4 ms track to track (- 0.3 ms) - 84 MB /s maximum sequential transfer rate (+ 12 MB/s) - 29 dBA Idle mode (-3 dBA)
It is based on the same type of platters than the WD1500ADFD and WD740ADFD, 75 GB platters but here only one side is in use. The “new version” of the 74 GB raptor, the WD740ADFD, has been released several months ago and the WD360ADFD should be available soon.
