After PQI, Corsair today announced new XMS2-8000UL memory modules. These modules are no longer certified to work with 4-3-3-8 settings but with more aggressive settings of 5-4-4-9 at 500 MHz. Deelopped with ASUSTeK with a P5WD2 Premium motherboard based on the i955X chipset, these memory modules could be capable of reaching 533 MHz with this board (neither timings or Voltages have been communicated). The XMS2-800UL are available in 512 MB memory modules (CM2X512-8000UL) and 2x512 MB (TWIN2X1024-8000UL) modules.
Even if this frequency seems very impressive we have to keep in mind that it will only be used with a Pentium 4/D and with much higher memory frequency than the FSB, for example with a FSB1000 (250 MHz) and a 1:2 FSB: DRAM ratio or a FSB1200 (300 MHz) and a 3:5 ratio. There is not much interest using the first configuration because of the bottleneck due to the FSB compared to the memory. It will also be the same problem up to a point for the second case …with on the top an important FSB which will only be reached with high Overclocking. This type of solution has to be only dedicated to those using their computer for the Sandra memory test…
