For the last decade, Sony’s position was: we are right and everybody else is wrong. Because of this position they have missed the MP3 format, and place all their hopes in the OLED at a time when LCD monitors sales were extremely dynamic. This policy only lasted a time. The Japanese giant has finally signed last year an agreement with Samsung to open together a panel production factory. This factory has just started its production. It is the biggest factory of this type according to the participants. It is also the first one to produce 7th generation panels. 1000 units are currently produced per months with an equal repartition for Sony and Samsung. It will be initially panels for quite wide TVs (26, 32 and 40” diagonal).
LG-Philips should also announce soon the beginning of production of their 7th generation panel factory.
