In a press release, Gigabyte announced a few days ago the first Pentium 4 motherboard equipped with two PCI Express x16 slots. Based on the Intel i915P chipsets, the GA-8I915P Dual Graphic is equipped with a Socket 775, supports current Pentium 4, future P4 6xx and the DDR and DDR2. The GA-8I915P Dual Graphic will also include the dual bios, FireWire, and two additional ATA ports.
Additionally to 3 standard PCI slots and one PCI Express x1, the GA-8I915P Dual Graphic also has 2 PCI Express x16 ports. As Intel’s chipsets have 20 PCI Express lanes, the first slot should be branched in x16 and the second one in x4. Using both slots should make the x1 slot unusable. However, unlike Gigabyte’s indications, this motherboard isn’t the first one with two PCI Express x16 slots. End of November, SuperMicro announced a similar motherboard. |
