Maxtor has announced today the release of two new SCSI hard drives ranges, the Atlas 10K V and Atlas 15K II.
Compared to the Atlas 15K, the 15K II are equipped with doubled capacity platters (36.7 GB instead of 18.4 GB). These 15000 Rpm hard drives have therefore doubled capacities and are available in 36.7, 73.5 and 147.1 GB version. Read access time are 3.0, 3.1 and 3.4 ms whether if the hard drive is equipped with 1, 2 or 3 platters (+2 ms latency time). 15K access times were 3.2, 3.2 and 3.4ms. Finally, sustained transfer rate in the beginning of the track increases from 75 to 98 MB/s.
The 10K V platters’ capacities have also doubled from 36.7 to 73.5 GB compared to the 10K IV. Capacities announced are 73.5, 147.1 and 300 GB. Read access time is announced at 4, 4.2 and 4.4ms (+3 ms of latency time due to the rotation speed). The 10K IV read access time was 4.3, 4.3 and 4.4ms for the 1, 2 and 3 platters versions. Transfer rate increases from 72 to 89 MB /s in the beginning of the track. According to Maxtor, the Ultra 320 versions are already available, but the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) versions should be released during the first quarter 2005. |
