C-470 Olympus’ best digital camera? Posted on 12/10/2004 at 15:16 by Vincent
Olympus' last press release announced the launch next November of the C-470 Zoom. A camera which will provide the most beautiful pictures (says the press release).
Some characteristics were included in the press release:
4 millions of pixels
3X optical zoom (equivalent 35–105 mm for a 35 mm camera) f3.1-5.2
a 4.5 cm ACL screen “for use in sunny situations” (134 000 pixels)
8 Scene programs (ex: Portrait, Night scene and Indoors)
Video and Audio functions
Pictbridge compatibility
TruePic TURBO Image processor
Ergonomic camera body
Sold with a 16 MB xD-Picture card, the new Lithium-ion battery (LI-12B, 1230mAh) with its charger and the Olympus Master 1.0 software.
One detail is still missing: the sensor size. If they announce a nice picture quality we hope that the sensor size will be 1/1.8”, the most accurate of the 4 MP CDD sensors. We realised during our last 4 MP digital camera test that this sensor only is almost enough to provide nice pictures. Well not this time, Olympus sticks to the 1/2.5” also present in the Konica Minolta Z3, Olympus µ410 and C-460. The bad news is that this sensor most of the time produces pictures with a high level of noise.
