New Catalyst beta Posted on 27/09/2004 at 21:59 by Damien
ATI has just released a beta version of their drivers. This version is more recent than the Catalyst 4.10 beta (or 8.06) distributed to the journalists for the Radeon X700 test. This release contradicts ATI’s Catalyst program saying that ATI never release a beta version of their drivers…
Officially the reason of this 8.07 (Cat 4.11 beta ?) version release would be a bug causing some problems with the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. ATI also indicates that this driver version correct a bug affecting all 256 MB graphic cards using intensively video memory with some applications. And finally, the last pretext is that this beta version will provide to the Radeon X700 user the possibility to have an optimised driver. It sounds logical regarding the number of Radeon X700 in your computers…
Could the real reason be the release of 3DMark05? This official release coincides with the 3DMark05 release and could be a reason to justify the use of this driver for the first tests. We have however decided not to use them before the official release.
These beta driver officials release following the launch of new benches (Doom 3, 3DMark05) have a lack of courtesy especially when they are going along with poor pretexts.
