Intel announced during the IDF that they had already started the sample production of the Rosedale chip for wireless networks. Based on the 802.16-2004 norm better known as WiMAX, this chip will be able to reach a maximum transfer rate of 75 Mbits/s and approximately a 30 miles maximum distance.

Initially this norm will be a WiFi complement, because it will connect the local 802.11 networks on long distances, or connect them to broadband Internet. Intel is planning to start the certification and interoperability tests during 2005.
