540 Mbps wireless connection? Posted on 16/08/2004 at 16:55 by Marc
The wireless world is under the influence of the 802.11n standard. This standard will be submitted for approval before the end of 2006. The last proposals coming from the WWiSE group including Airgo Networks, Bermai, Broadcom, Conexant, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments, are more than interesting.
The WWiSE proposal is to reach 135 Mbits /s by using two 20 MHz channels with the MIMO technology (Multiple Input Multiple Output). But that is not it, the WWiSE also provides the option to use four 40 MHz channels (where permitted), to reach 540 Mbits /s !
These figures are very promising, however we should keep in mind that the current 802.11g announced 54 Mbits /s but only reach 22 Mbits /s during the tests made on products available on the market. However, 220 Mbits /s or 27.5 MB/S could already be a great result!
