19nm flash from Toshiba! Posted on 21/04/2011 at 12:02 by Marc
Toshiba has just announced that it has produced some 19nm MLC flash NAND memory. The size of the chip, which has a capacity of 8GB, has not been given, with Toshiba saying that samples will be available as of end of April, with mass production to be launched in the course of the third quarter. No information has been given on the lifespan of these chips.
One week ago, IMFT announced an 8 GB chip engraved at 20nm, with mass production announced for the second half of the year. We’re unlikely to see SSDs based on these memories before 2012.
