Sapphire relaunches the Radeon HD 5850 and 5830! Posted on 06/04/2011 at 00:15 by Marc
Sapphire has made a rather surprising announcement. It is relauching new versions of the Radeon HD 5850 and 5830, the Xtreme Editions. These cards of course have nothing extreme about them and will use the official clocks. They are accompanied by 1 GB of GDDR5 and DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outs. The cooler, with heatpipes, is announced as quiet and is similar to that used on the Radeon HD 6800s.
What makes these cards worth a look at is their pricing! The Radeon HD 5850 should be on sale at €119 and the Radeon HD 5830 at €89. How are Sapphire managing this? They have apparently obtained exclusivity from AMD on the last stocks of these solutions. These price levels make them great value for money as, in terms of performance, the 5830 is equivalent to an 6790 (around €120) while the 5850 falls between the 6850 and 6870 (around €155 and €175). The Radeon HD 5850 and 5830 Xtremes should be in stores as of next week.
