After announcing its P55A-UD7 in January, Gigabyte is set to bring out another high end motherboard with the GA-890FXA-UD7. As its name indicates, it’s based on the recent AMD 890FX, designed for AMD processors.
This card will have 6 PCI-Express ports and therefore support CrossFire-X. The power phase race seems to be stalling, with Gigabyte “only” giving its latest motherboard 10 phases, two of which are reserved for memory. This is nevertheless an enormous number of power phases and overclocking shouldn’t be limited at this level. SATA 6 Gbps and USB 3.0 are of course included.
On top of the chipset, which is set up for watercooling (questionable system unless you want to massively overclock the built-in IGP), Gigabyte is likely to equip the card with its Hybrid Silent-Pipe system. In place of the waterblock, it will be possible to use a second cooler, which will extend outside the casing to better dissipate the heat.
No price yet for this resolutely high-end card but availability is planned for the beginning of next month, at the same time as the Phenom II X6s. |
