Two new Athlon II X4s on the way Posted on 16/02/2010 at 13:48 by Benoit
Unable to compete with Intel in terms of brute performance, AMD is filling up the mid-range CPU segment with its Athlon II X2s and X4s that offer great performance/price ratios. Remember that these models are Phenom IIs without an L3 cache, which explains their good general performance levels.
It’s with the Athlon II X4 640 and 645 that AMD counts on extending its range. They will be clocked at 3.0 GHz and 3.1 GHz respectively, supplanting the recent 635 clocked at 2.9 GHz.
The Athlon II 640 is expected in the second quarter of 2010, with the 645 coming in the third. These two processors are going to have their hands full opposite Intel’s i3s and i5s engraved at 32nm.
