Intel has just announced its Intel Core i5 and Core i3 brands. In the long term they will replace the Core 2 ranges and only Celeron, Pentium and Atom will survive alongside them. Intel say that the forthcoming Lynnfields will be sold either as Core i7s or Core i5s depending on their features. According to our sources, Lynnfields with hyperthreading activated (4 cores and 8 threads then) will be sold as Core i7s while those without (4 cores and 4 threads) as Core i5s. Core i3s will also be sold without Turbo mode.

Intel are also counting on highlighting its Intel Core range in place of the vPro and Centrino platforms. vPro will continue to exist but will be sold as part of the Intel Core range ("Intel Core i7 vPro", "Intel Core i5 vPro" …) while in 2010 Centrino will only be used for Wi-Fi and WiMAX products.
