Several on-line stores, including some based in Europe, already feature the triple core Phenom on their price lists. Curiously, these are only Phenom 8x50s or in other words those that don’t have the B3 core revision. They are equipped with an L2 cache of 1.5 MB, L3 cache of 2 MB, TDP is 95W and those here come with a fan.
For the Phenom 8450 (2.1 GHz), plan on spending 137.50€, for the 8650 (2.3 GHz) it will be 156€ and 175€ for the 8750 (2.4 GHz). In comparison, the Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33 GHz, 4 MB of L2 cache, 65nm) and E8200 (2.66 GHz 6 MB of L2 cache, 45nm) are found starting at 145€ and 165€, respectively.
So AMD isn’t being too revolutionary in terms of prices, but given its relatively precarious financial state, the company can ill afford to. In the meantime, this processor is not really a deal for gamers because the Core 2 Duo currently does a little better in games than the Phenom at equivalent frequencies.
