2D consumption readings vary between 6.9 watts for the most economical card, the Radeon HD 5450 GDDR3, and 85.2 watts for the card that uses most power, the GeForce 9800 GX2. Since this card came out, NVIDIA has worked to bring 2D consumption on its cards down. The GTX 295 “only” draws 62.7 watts. Although ATI was behind NVIDIA with the HD 4000 generation, the HD 5000s stand out with very low power consumption at idle, the HD 5870 drawing just 19.6 watts against 43.4 watts for the 5970.
