Since this card came out, NVIDIA has worked to bring 2D consumption on its cards down. The GTX 295 “only” draws 62.7 watts. Although ATI was behind NVIDIA with the HD 4000 generation, the HD 5000s stand out with very low power consumption at idle, the HD 5870 drawing just 19.6 watts against 43.4 watts for the 5970.
