Conclusion
When Colorvision called us, we were sceptical. Their enthusiasm, however, persuaded us. We felt it might be possible for a graphic specialist to finally release a cheap quality probe. This is something that would be useful to the number readers that write us on a daily basis asking for the settings used in our tests.
Basic version : approximately $200, pro version : approximately $300 We recently started to give out the adjustments before calibration, which we started with in manually adjusting the monitor. We can’t however provide the profiles created by a colorimeter or the parameters of each computer obtained after calibration, as these files wouldn’t be applicable to other computers. It was tried but results were poor.
This is the reason why this $200 probe interested us so much. The price would be attractive if colors after calibration were perfect.

The problem is that colors aren’t perfect. Using the Spyder 2 improves quality, but not to the point where colors are good enough for graphic designers. For this to happen, all DeltaE measurements (see previous pages) would have to be inferior to 3, which isn’t the case. In comparison, the LaCie colorimeter, which is twice as expensive, does very well in this respect. This probe price is $349 from
LaCie’s website.
