Summing up the latest 5.1 speaker sets

Logitech X-530
The X-530 is the Logitech’s basic 5.1 speaker set model. It does, however, have a nice design and 70 watts of overall power. Each satellite has two 2” speakers, which are supposed to resituate both treble and mediums. The horizontal central speaker features the same element and provides 2 x 7.4 watts. The subwoofer is quite small and provides 25 watts. It’s just unfortuneate that the cables to connect the speakers to the sound card or audio chipset are undetatchable. It’s not very practical, and in addition they are quite short and directly connected to the right front speaker. This speaker also features general volume adjustment and the power control. The bass control is located behind the subwoofer.

The X-530’s sound quality isn’t exceptional, but it isn’t disappointing either (compared to the set’s price). Sound restitution is overall satisfactory, but it is quite flat and trebles lack accuracy and quickly saturate. Mediums are quite strong, but show a strong coloration distorting sound. Basses were OK, quite deep and taut, but are rather weak for the lower part of the frequency spectrum, resulting in saturation during some of the music samples. Compared to the Creative Labs T5900, the X-530 mainly lacks homogeneity. Sound lacks “roundness” and might seem a little high-pitched for some classical musical pieces. The stereo image was correct while instrument repartition was quite imperfect in correlation with our remark on overall homogeneity. This is unfortunate, all the more so because the X-530 is supposed to benefit from Logitech FDD2 technology, which improves overall sound restitution homogeneity.

Thanks to a very attractive price the X-530 is still a very interesting 5.1 speaker set. It’s quite low for such power and nice overall finishing touches. If you can invest a little more, however, we advise you to choose the Creative Labs Inspire T5900. Comparison with the Altec Lansing VS3151R is a little more difficult. The VS3151R has in fact better sound quality, but maybe it isn’t proportional to the price gap with the X-530 ...
