AMD Sempron vs Intel Celeron D
by Marc Prieur
Published on August 19, 2004

Mathematica 5
The next test was based on Wolfram Research’s Mathematica 5 for scientific calculations. We used the test series developed by Stefan Steinhaus.

The Celeron 2.8GHz was still clearly lagging. The D version had better results, and was only slightly behind the Sempron 2800+.

Matlab 6.5
We also used another scientific calculation software, Matlab 6.5. We used the test series developed by Marco de la Cruz-Heredia. We modified this test series to focus only on small size matrices (1.5 MB approximately). The test based on bigger matrices was too long.

This time the gap was more significant between the Celeron and Sempron. The Sempron was still in the lead and had performances between the 2800+ and 3100+.
